Matching Family Christmas Socks: 3 Ways to Do It (and Get the Photo)
WearMoods
The quick answer
- All the same: buy single pairs of one design. Four people in Ho Ho is £20.
- Mix and match: one gift box has four designs for £15, so everyone matches but has their own.
- With children: our socks are adult sizes (UK 7.5–11.5), so match the kids by colour.
- For the photo: five poses that work every time.
Matching Christmas pyjamas are lovely until you're trying to find six sets in the right sizes in mid-December. Matching family Christmas socks are the easy version: they're cheaper, one size fits most grown-ups, and in the Christmas morning photo, feet are what everyone's looking at anyway.
Here's how to plan them, what it costs for families of every size, and how to take the photo without anyone sulking.
Three ways to do matching family socks
Decide on the look first. It changes what you buy:
- All the same. The most striking photo. Choose one design and buy a pair for everyone.
- Mix and match. Our favourite. Everyone wears a different design from the same set, so it looks planned but nobody's a clone, and there's no arguing over who gets which.
- Match by colour. The answer for families with young children (see below): grown-ups in our socks, little ones in plain socks of the same colours.
What it costs
| Grown-ups | All the same | Mix and match |
|---|---|---|
| 2 (a couple) | 2 pairs of one design: £10 | 2 different pairs: £10 |
| 4 | 4 pairs: £20 | 1 gift box: £15 |
| 6 | 6 pairs: £30 | 1 gift box + 2 pairs: £25 |
| 8 | 8 pairs: £40 | 2 gift boxes: £30 |

Which design suits your family?
Ho Ho£5 · loud, red, made for photos
Holly Berry£5 · the traditional family
Snowy Village£5 · cosy, for Christmas Eve
Starry Forest£5 · for the reluctant one
Got a family member who "doesn't do" Christmas clothes? Give them Starry Forest. It's navy and looks plain from a distance, so they're in the photo without feeling silly.
Matching Christmas socks for couples
For his-and-hers Christmas socks, buy two pairs of the same design, or pick two that coordinate: Snowy Village and Starry Forest are both navy with a starry sky, so they look like a pair without being identical.
One thing to check: our socks are one size, fitting UK shoe sizes 7.5–11.5. They fit most men, and women from about UK 7.5. On smaller feet they'll feel roomy at the heel. See the sock size guide.
Matching family socks with children
We'll be honest: we only make adult sizes at the moment. But you can still get the matching look by coordinating colours:
- Grown-ups in Ho Ho: put the children in plain red socks, or red with white stripes.
- Grown-ups in Holly Berry: green socks for the kids. Anything with a red detail is a bonus.
- Grown-ups in navy (Snowy Village or Starry Forest): navy or white socks with stars or snowflakes.
- The dog gets a red or green bandana. Dogs and socks don't mix.
Teenagers with UK 7.5 feet and up can wear ours, which tends to go down better than being put in "kids'" socks.
How to take the family sock photo: five poses
- The sofa line-up. Everyone sits on the sofa with feet up on the coffee table or a footstool, tallest to smallest. Shoot from the end of the table at foot height.
- The circle. Everyone lies on the rug with feet together in the middle, like a star. Stand on a (steady) chair and shoot straight down.
- The fireplace. Feet crossed at the ankle, resting on the hearth or in front of the tree. Fairy lights in the background, blurred.
- The stairs. One person per step, feet only, shot from the bottom of the stairs looking up.
- Under the tree. Everyone lies on their front, feet in the air, presents in the foreground.
Tips: take it in daylight near a window rather than under the ceiling light; put your phone at foot height, not eye height; use burst mode so someone's always mid-wiggle; and take the slippers out of shot first.
When to give them
- In the Christmas Eve box, so everyone's wearing them on Christmas morning. See our Christmas Eve box ideas, including a family Christmas Eve box.
- Rolled into the top of each stocking. Our stocking filler guide shows how to pack it.
- Handed out at the door on Christmas Day when everyone arrives.
Four matching grown-ups for £15
The Christmas Mood socks gift box has all four designs: one pair each, £3.75 a pair. Or add any single design four times for an all-the-same look. Order by Wednesday 16 December for Christmas.

Frequently asked questions
Do you make matching Christmas socks for kids?
Not at the moment: our socks are adult one size (UK 7.5–11.5). For younger children, match by colour with plain red, green or navy socks.
Can I get four pairs of the same design?
Yes. Add the single design four times (£5 each). The gift box always has one of each of the four designs.
What's the cheapest way to do matching socks for a big family?
Gift boxes: each one is four pairs for £15, so eight grown-ups is £30 with two boxes.
Will they fit women?
Yes, from about UK 7.5. On smaller feet they'll feel a little roomy at the heel.
When should I order matching family socks for Christmas?
By Wednesday 16 December for free standard delivery, or Friday 18 December for express. If they're going in a Christmas Eve box, order a few days earlier. See Christmas delivery dates.
